Sharp’s Win the Champions League with Own Goal

The award-winning team at Sharp’s Brewery is celebrating another great win. This time Sharp’s Own has been named Supreme Champion Cornish Ale of the 2010 Falmouth Beer Festival.
Sharp’s Own (occasionally called Sharp’s Original) was the first beer ever brewed commercially at Sharp’s Brewery in July 1994. This supreme beer, a deep dark best bitter is a firm favourite of the brewery’s staff and many of Sharp’s original customers remain loyal to stocking this supreme champion beer in preference to the breweries mighty flagship brand Doom Bar.
A panel of independent judges deliberated for more than three hours during a blind tasting of over 200 beers available at the Festival to decide that Sharp’s Own deserved the much coveted title.
Commenting on the win, Sharp’s head brewer, Stuart Howe, said: “Everyone in the brewing team is justly proud of themselves and each other. It makes the hours of toil worthwhile.”
This year Sharp’s has received recognition for its business achievements in the Cornwall Business Awards when they were awarded the Growth Strategy trophy and Doom Bar beer won a bronze in the Publican’s Licensee Choice Awards 2010 for the second year running.
CAMRA Kernow spokesperson, Fran Brennan, said: “It’s a great win for Sharp’s Brewery and well deserved.”
The festival was held at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth. More than 4,500 thirsty drinkers attended the event with 27,856 pints of beer and cider consumed.
