Apple Crumble

Method

1. Preheat the oven 200°C/gas mark 6.
2. Put the apples into a pan with 4 tbsp of the sugar, the lemon juice and 50ml water. Cook on a medium heat until slightly soft - about 10 minutes. Transfer to a 900ml buttered baking dish.
3. Sift the flour, add the butter and rub in with fingertips until the mix resembles crumbs. Stir in 2 tbsp sugar then sprinkle over the apples. 4. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
5. Serve warm with double cream or Homemade Custard (see recipe index).

Ingredients

900g / 2 lbs cooking apples, peeled, cored and roughly
chopped
6 tbsp soft light brown sugar
A dash of freshly squeezed lemon juice
175g / 6 oz plain flour
100g / 4 oz cold butter, cubed
