June basket comparison shows we’re still keeping prices lower than the supermarkets…

As our graph below shows, when we put together a standard basket of the sort of fresh foods that a family might buy on a weekly basis we can beat the supermarkets on price.

Asda are always the most competitive but sometimes we struggle to find a product of comparable quality to that which we are stocking. Bacon is a good example - search for dry-cure bacon at Asda and you are likely to draw a blank - ours from Robert Trevarthen is superb. Similarly it is possible at all the supermarkets to buy a bag of Granny Smith's apples and they often seem like good value - but compare them to the loose Granny Smith's on the shelves and you'll soon realise that they are the undersize apples screened out at the packhouse and often sold at a higher 'per kilo' price. Our Granny smith's are the same size whether you buy a single size or a pack of six, we just make sure that if you buy six you get a slight discount.

If you don't want to bother with driving to the supermarket (and who would when diesel is now averaging £6.30/gallon across the UK) or you find the convenience of home shopping much more relaxing then our free delivery is an even greater saving. Depending on where you live the minimum order value for free delivery may be as low as £25.00 - the only supermarket to offer free delivery is Sainsbury's, and then only when you have spent £70 during the week, or £100 at the weekend.

We keep talking about it but the other huge benefit of using cornishfoodmarket.co.uk is that more of your money stays in the local community, re-cycling through our economy and making all of us a little bit better off.
